An urban exploration ( urbex ) of the abandoned Royal navey gunpowder cordite factory at Holton Heath near Wareham in Dorset, England.
This factory made a type of gunpowder explosive propellant called cordite.
The difference between cordite and gunpowder is that gunpowder is an explosive mixture of saltpetre (potassium nitrate), charcoal and sulphur; formerly used in gunnery but now mostly used in fireworks while cordite is a smokeless propellent made by combining two high explosives, nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine, used in some firearm ammunition.
They also work a little differently as although both are classified as low explosives. Gunpowder, if you put a little heap of it somewhere safe and put a match to it will go up in a puff of smoke, cordite simply burns.
The factory is hidden deep in a forest which I guess has grown around the factory in the years that it has been abandoned. A lot of the now empty and desolate buildings have been tagged with graffiti.
