Part 1: Sergei relates his experiences growing up in Soviet-era Ukraine, and how life differed between the socialist economy of the USSR and the market economy he encountered upon his first visits to the USA in the 1990s.
Born in Kyiv in 1971, Ukrainian-American Sergei Sputnikoff grew up in the waning days of the Soviet Union. He immigrated to the US in 1999, settling down with his American family in Southwest Michigan. Sputnikoff produces wide-ranging and insightful commentary on life in the Soviet Union through his popular YouTube channel, “Ushanka Show.”
