And finally the pilot from the first successful crewed space mission in NASA’s Apollo program Walter Cunningham died on Tuesday, local time, in Houston at the age of 90.
The retired astronaut was the last surviving member of the three-man Apollo 7 mission.
The mission in 1968 lasted eleven days and paved the way for the first man being put on the Moon the next year.
It was also the first space flight to broadcast live footage of Americans from space which saw the astronauts win a special Emmy award for their daily television reports.
Before joining NASA in 1963, Cunningham served as a fighter pilot with the US Marine Corps and flew 54 missions in Korea.
