The STREF-SCS001V1 reference design enables you to create a USB Type-C connector quickly and easily for any device up to 100W (20 V, 5 A).
Welcome to this short video from STMicroelectronics which shows you how easy it is to migrate your device to the new USB Type-C connectors.
USB type-C / has already been widely adopted in smartphone and computers, replacing the legacy USB STD-A or USB micro-B ports.
In the video we will show you a set of devices with their own chargers that we migrate to Type-C in order to be charged or simply powered by any universal USB PD charger.
- 5V Power bank
- 9V POWER TOOL
- 15V bluetooth speaker
As long as the device is below 100W, it can benefit from USB Type-C & Power Delivery features such as
• Universal Ports
• Thin connectors
• Flip-able cable,
• Fast charging capability.
So now the question is, how complex it is to perform this migration ?
STMicroelectronics has developed a tiny reference design to ease this transition.
The AUTORUN STUSB4500 USB PD Controller embeds all the necessary intelligence to ensure the power negotiation and a safe connection.
In the video we show you how simple it is to migrate by doing a quick demonstration
We take a universal charger that replaces all legacy custom chargers and
1- we take a 5V Power bank
2- we charge it with our Type-C reference design
3- you will see on the power-meter that a negotiation has been performed and the 5V is going through, and that the device is charged properly.
4- we also use the same charger with a Bluetooth speaker requiring 15V for charging.
5- Another negotiation is done & the device is charged properly at 15V.
You can easily implement the same design on your own device and move to the next generation.
