It's time for kids to be kids again! YMCA Summer Day Camps help youth and teens stay active, build relationships, learn new skills, explore new opportunities – all while keeping safe operating under strict CDC and State and City guidelines.
Summer Day Camps are $195 per week. Financial assistance of up to 100% is also available. For more information on Summer Day Camps and Summer Teen Programs, go to www.ymcahonolulu.org
Thanks to grants from the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, the Atherton Family Foundation and the Bank of Hawaii Foundation, the YMCA of Honolulu has added additional openings for Summer Day Camps at YMCA Branches [Kaimuki-Waialae, Kalihi, Leeward, Mililani, Nu'uanu, Windward] for youth who have completed K through 6th grade and at Camp Erdman for youth and teens ages 6 to 16 years old. Summer Programs for teens are also available at the Atherton YMCA.
Initial grants from the Hawaii Resilience Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation and the City and County of Honolulu, supported the YMCA’s efforts to provide essential workers’ child care services under strict CDC and State guidelines since mid-March and then to transition to Summer Day Camps for parents who needed to go back to work.
New this year, the YMCA Camp Erdman’s Summer Day Camp features many of the favorite activities traditionally offered at overnight resident camps. From archery, hiking and swimming to Alpine Tower climbs, Battle Camp challenges and sports, there is plenty of healthy outdoor space at Camp Erdman’s 20-acre campgrounds. Parents have also been taking advantage of the optional daily bus transportation to Camp Erdman with pickups from Honolulu, Aiea, Kapolei, Waikele, Mililani, Wahiawa, Windward Oahu, and the North Shore.
Summer Day Camps at Kaimuki-Waialae, Mililani and Nu’uanu YMCAs also include a special summer scholars program which will be incorporated into day camp programs so Campers can catch up on their academics. Supported by a grant from BellXcel, a national nonprofit known for designing award winning, evidence-based summer and afterschool programs, the program is included at no additional cost to families.
Campers will participate remotely in professional teacher-led classroom settings to help lessen any learning loss and prepare them to go back to school. Using a strong social-emotional learning approach, the program focuses on math, language arts, S.T.E.A.M., and physical wellness. Campers will be provided laptops to participate in the YMCA’s remote learning classrooms at YMCA Branches.
