BE CAREFUL WHO YOU PRAY TO. Based on the 193 novel: The Shrine, The Unholy is the story of an outcast reporter's path back to the spotlight when he discovers a blind girl claiming to connect with the Virgin Mary, who supposedly heals her blindness with a miracle. But as this mysterious entity becomes a national phenomenon and more "miracles" begin to occur, it becomes more and more clear that this supposedly holy spirit is quite the opposite of that.

Whether or not you've seen The Unholy already, I've got some hidden details you'll want to look out for when watching it, from connections to stories of locations designated as "shrines" in real life to the meaning behind the many instances of red lights, to spirits hiding in plain sight and of course, crew reference easter eggs, there is definitely more than meets the eye when it comes to this movie and it's antagonist, Mary Elnore.

About The Unholy
The Unholy follows Alice, a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate. When terrifying events begin to happen all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister. The Unholy is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Evan Spiliotopoulos, written for the screen and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos, and is based upon James Herbert’s best-selling book Shrine.
