1. 6 10 7 LS CROWD The two day track and field match at Philadelphia between the United States and the Soviet Union winds up with results similar to the one held in Moscow last year. American men and Russian women dominate the scene. Here in the womens 80-meter hurdles, the Russian entries capture both first and second places. The winner, Galina Bystrova, sets a new American record of 11 seconds flat. The race typifies the superiority of the Russian women athletes who outscore their American rivals, 67-40. After the hurdle race, in a demonstration of good sportsmanship, the girls of both nations pose together.

7. 52 87 29 LAST LAP Sokolov still leads going into the backstretch. But then the two Oregonians make their move. Burleson and Grelle close on the tiring Russian. Theyve still got plenty of speed in reserve as they pass Sokolov. And they need it to beat off the final challenge of Momotkov. The Americans respond with a burst of speed to maintain their advantage. Burleson and Grelle reach the tape eight yards ahead of Momotkov. Burleson breaks the tape first by virtue of a final lunge but both men are clocked in the same time 3 minutes and 49.4 seconds. At the conclusion of the meet, the American men come out on top by a score of 127 to 108.
