On Saturday, March 23, 2024, Carnival Freedom’s funnel caught fire. We provide an update on the current sailing and Carnival’s plans to take the ship out of commission.

This isn’t the first time Carnival Freedom’s funnel has caught fire. You likely saw the headlines that went viral in May of 2022 where photos and videos emerged of the ship on fire in Grand Turk.

Thankfully, in both cases, no one was injured.

This time, there have been reports of a potential lightning strike. Carnival is looking into those reports and completing an investigation into the cause of the fire.

We are thankful that no one was injured and wish those on the current journey a safe trip home. After this current sailing, the ship will be taken out of service resulting in several canceled cruises.
