The city is known for its Greek heritage with many restaurants and cafes serving authentic Greek food and local shops selling gifts and souvenirs. Tarpon Springs Florida is also known as “the sponge capital of the world” with its thriving and vibrant sea sponge extraction industry. Visitors to the city can take boat tours with live demonstrations of diving and sea sponge extraction.
