The engraved brass dial is beautiful on this grandfather or long case clock, hand crafted in Marlbro, England about 1825.
The 8 day movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled and still keeps excellent time, counting the hour on a bell. The calendar dial works on this country manor timekeeper.
Solid fine grained oak, the case has a very nice old finish and warm patina. There are shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its glowing luster.
Engraved iron hands appear original, the winding crank is old but not original. Because of damp stone floors, the base has been rebuilt. Hand carved columns and fluted corners are authentic.
Signed by the maker, "In. (Inigo) Wilkins, Marlbro," the market town is in the lovely Cotswolds area, west of London. Size of this antique furniture is 21 1/2" wide, 11" deep and 88" tall.
