Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo have agreed to step up cooperation in defence and trade, as concerns grow over China's rising influence in the region. The two sides signed a defence and security cooperation agreement, a five-year diplomatic action plan and have agreed to review maritime border arrangements. Mr Marcos is on his first official overseas trip since taking office. The role of ASEAN was also high on their agenda.
