Ever wonder why Paris has no double-decker transport buses, in the way that London, or all of the UK does?
Paris did try to implement a fleet of double-deckers - but failed in its attempt to do so!
Paris had double-deckers in the early 20th century until 1912. In the mid-1960s, the RATP tried again - and the result was a fleet of 26 PCMR-E type buses. These were based on the PGR, which was the short wheelbase version of the PCM series of buses.
But...the buses did not fare well, and after the 26 buses were built, no more were ordered.
The Saviem SC10 was far more successful, but no bi-level version was built.
See and hear the story of why Paris and the RATP has no double decker buses today!
A special thanks to Jean-Henri Manara for giving me permission to use photos from his collection to illustrate much of this video. It's probably the best photographic record of the PCMR-E available anywhere!
And as always, thank you so much for watching, liking, commenting and sharing my videos! I am very grateful for all of the support I receive from all of you who enjoy my work!
