On May 24th 2015, Lake Eufaula approached the top of its flood control pool at 600 ft above sea level. The Army corps of Engineers was forced to release water through the spillway at 172,000 cubic feet per second. This is the highest volume of water released from the dam since 1990. At 1.286 million gallons of water flowing over the spillway every second, the resulting waterfall carried more than double the amount of water flowing over Niagara Falls.
