Laos is a country in Southeast Asia with a population of 7 million people. It is bordered by Myanmar, China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.
Laos was country number 18 of my walk around the world tour.
I stayed in Laos for 27 days and in that time I walked over 520 kilometers which is 320 miles.
Please join me now for a walk through Laos!
Thank you very much and welcome to Laos!
Laos, officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao: ສາທາລະນະລັດ ປະຊາທິປະໄຕ ປະຊາຊົນລາວ), commonly referred to by its colloquial name of Muang Lao (Lao: ເມືອງລາວ, Muang Lao), is a socialist state and the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia.
Located at the heart of the Indochinese peninsula, Laos is bordered by Myanmar (Burma) and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the southeast, and Thailand to the west and southwest.
Overall, the country extends about 650 miles (1,050 km) from northwest to southeast. The capital is Vientiane (Lao: Viangchan), located on the Mekong River in the northern portion of the country.
Laos is a mountainous country, especially in the north, where peaks rise above 9,000 ft (2,800 m). Dense forests cover the northern and eastern areas. The Mekong River, which forms the boundary with Burma and Thailand, flows through the country for 932 mi (1,500 km) of its course.
The Lao people migrated into Laos from southern China from the 8th century onward. In the 14th century, the first Laotian state was founded, the Lan Xang kingdom, which ruled Laos until it split into three separate kingdoms in 1713. During the 18th century, the three kingdoms came under Siamese (Thai) rule and, in 1893, became a French protectorate. With its territory incorporated into Indochina.
Laos celebrates many annual festivals called "Boun" in the Lao Language which are particularly enjoyable and beautiful, signifying traditional aspects of Lao lifestyle.
Despite its small population, Laos has 49 ethnic groups, or tribes.
PART 2 𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗧 𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟, 𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗡 𝗦𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗛𝗘𝗨𝗔
Boun Ok Phansa is the last day of the Buddhist lent. It occurs on the 15th day of the 11th month of the lunar calendar. In the morning, donation and offering are made at temples around the country. In the evening, candlelight processions are held around the temples while hundreds of colourful floats decorated with flowers, incense and candles are set adrift down the rivers giving thanks to the river spirit (lai huea fai and loi ka thong). There are said to pay respect to the Buddha and to thank the mother of river for providing water for our lives as well as for blessing and to float bad luck of the past year away enabling the good luck to flow in. this colourful ritual has been carried on by Lao people for thousands of year.
PART 2 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗶 𝗛𝗲𝘂𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗶
This enchanting Laos Festival is celebrated at the end of the rainy season on the full moon of the 11the lunar month. This means the date will be different each year.
PART 3 𝗧𝗮𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹
The Tad Fane Waterfall is in the Dong Hua Sao jungle, one of the National Biodiversity Conservation areas in Champasak Province in Laos.
PART 3 𝗧𝗮𝗱 𝗬𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀
Also spelled Tad Gneuang, this is a 40m high, truely picturesque waterfall surrounded by beautiful nature.
