Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed the growing influence of "new centres of power" on Friday at a summit with Asian leaders including China's Xi Jinping. For deeper analysis on the meeting between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin and their "much-vaunted limitless friendship," FRANCE 24 is joined by retired Brigadier General Jean-Vincent Brisset, Associate Research Fellow at the French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS). Brigadier General Brisset explains that Russia is once again turning to China, as they have been doing for some time. "Russia is fearing the West's and NATO's influence that seems directed against Russia." And so it is a natural course of events, our guest asserts, whereby Russia seeks to further solidify their relationship with China, "and China is interested in maintaining peaceful relations with Russia" to foster a "win-win cooperation." But he highlights an important point regarding the SCO Summit: "What's happening now in Samarkand must not be reduced to the Xi Jinping-Putin meeting. I think there's much more to say about that, since the countries participating in the summit represent nearly 50 percent of the world population."
