Courage” (based on the Brecht 's play "Mother Courage and Her Children ")
It is the first time the drama in Ukraine had been read only with the help of plastics and choreography language. That’s how the director and choreographer A.Sklyarenko stages “the history of a vivandiere” – the woman who goes through the war, losing her children each after each, stands up after each loss like “a steadfast tin soldier” and keeps pushing her boulder uphill.
The two-hour theatre piece doesn’t have almost any verbal part. Without a word, young dramatic actors (without any special choreographic training) recreate the complex event line of the play, including all the superfine shades of their characters’ relations.
The choreographic language of the play is extremely rich, even eclectic, but it also gives the impression of a monolithic cohesiveness. Each style with its unique features used in the play - jazz, modern, contemporary dances, elements of character dance, tango, waltz - helps to solve a given scene in a certain way. Broad style variety combines languages of extremely eloquent dramatic plastique.
The structure of move requires ascetic and multifunctional stagecraft, which, nevertheless, is iconic and symbolic.
