A destructive wildfire dubbed the "Oak Fire" is burning out of control, forcing nearly three thousand people to abandon their homes in Mariposa County in California as it neared Yosemite National Park.
Firefighters deployed air tankers, bulldozers and hand crews to battle the blaze which suddenly grew into one of the largest fires of the year.
As of Sunday morning, the fire had consumed 14,281 acres, more than half the size of Paris, and was zero percent contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). It was 10 per cent contained by Monday.
