Ardahan is a province in the northeastern corner of Turkey, located in the Eastern Anatolia Region and partially in the Eastern Black Sea Region, on the Georgian border. It borders Artvin in the west, Erzurum in the southwest, Kars provinces in the south and Georgia in the east. It is the gateway of the Republic of Turkey to the Caucasus.
It became a province in 1924. In 1926, it became a district of Kars province. In 1992, it left the province of Kars and became a province again.
Ardahan has unique natural and historical values arising from the geographical structure and historical past of the province. In addition to the natural structure and climate unique to the Eastern Anatolia Region, Ardahan hosts different beauties with the transition places to the topography, climate and vegetation of the Eastern Black Sea Region. With its high plains, streams, forests, plateaus with a rich variety of flowers and two lakes, Ardahan is a nature paradise waiting to be discovered.
There are a total of two border gates between Georgia and Ardahan, namely Türkgözü and Çıldır Aktaş Border Gate.
Agriculture and animal husbandry activities have come to the fore in Ardahan province due to the fact that there are many meadow-pasture areas, the industrial centers are far from the province and other reasons.
Animal husbandry activities are more prominent than agricultural activities throughout the province. Almost all of the agricultural products such as apple, pear, corn and cherry are grown in Posof district.
Grain products such as wheat and barley are grown throughout the province. However, industrial agriculture is not practiced.
Almost all agricultural products are organic.
Ardahan province is suitable for animal husbandry due to reasons such as climatic conditions, presence of meadows and pastures. Climatic conditions are suitable for forage crop production.
Large and small cattle farming is carried out in the form of pasture livestock throughout the province. A large number of poultry are fed in Ardahan. The most commonly fed poultry is the goose. Besides goose, chicken, duck and turkey are also fed.
