Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), commonly known as Red Flag Laws, are legal measures that enable law enforcement or concerned individuals to petition a court to temporarily confiscate firearms from an individual who poses a credible risk of harming themselves or others. Effective from January 1, 2024, ERPOs aim to prevent potential violence by temporarily restricting an individual's access to firearms when there are substantial concerns about their behavior, mental state, or threats of violence.
In this webinar, Rana Alexander will highlight the nuances between ERPOs, Orders for Protection (OFPs), and Harassment Restraining Orders (HROs), explaining their legal criteria, durations, and intended scopes. A participant will learn how to help guide a petitioner through the legal processes of ERPOs, offering support in completing necessary paperwork accurately and navigating court proceedings.
