The Leatherman Tool Company makes several multitool sheath variations that all have one thing in common; they need improvement.
Here is a closer lock at three different sheaths designed to hold my black oxide Wave. Of these; the MOLLE sheath was the most flimsy, the "open design" hardly useable, and the "closed design" minimally acceptable. None of these sheaths offer a truly secure hold for any kind of rigorous work where the tool stands a chance of being lost.
Considering the number of people who carry Leatherman multitools on a daily basis, including first responders, I find it absolutely stunning that Leatherman Tool Company does not address the weaknesses in their OEM pouches. Higher-end sheaths, to include duty-quality stitched leather, should be made available even if that means selling them separately as higher priced accessories.
Note: I have also handled the leather sheaths designed to hold the Wave at my local sporting goods store, and can say that they are even WORSE than the three shown here. You've been warned.
