Come take a walk with us and the brilliant children from two of the major tribes in Wayanad, Kerala. Over 4 days and nights, Show and Heal conducted a series of trainings intersecting mental health, yoga as holistic lifestyle, mindfulness, and embracing identity with these beautiful children and staff. In this cultural exchange, we learned so much about their traditions, language, and personalities! We will be sharing clips from our extraordinary immersion and exploration of the Self these coming weeks!
Paniyas have been historically sold as bonded labor with land and now many are employed as farm hands. They worship the diety Kali and banyan tree (believing that cutting it will cause illness). 70% of the tribal population is Paniya in Wayanad.
Kattunayakans were once known as the kings of the jungle and were completely dependent on the forest for bark, honey, roots, and small animals they could capture. They worship all things in nature like animals, trees, birds, snakes and rocks. In addition they worship their ancestors.
Tribal medicine is also very common and effective as knowledge of the benefits and healing properties of specific plants found in the forests have been passed down generation to generation orally without any records and without exploitation of nature. Stay tuned for our video interviews!
