After a couple of weeks of rain, we were able to get out today to complete Stage 32 of the Gran Senda de Málaga! Part 4 of this stage started with quite a climb. As we passed through the pine forest, we looked across at the Alpujata and Las Nieves mountain ranges. We reached a wide firebreak (which we had climbed with some of the group a while back, in order to reach the highest point of the Sierra Mijas). We enjoyed panoramic views from this point to Sierras Prieta, Cabrilla/Blanquilla and Alcaparaín/Grajo. Passing through El Bosque de los Lobos, this led to a steep descent down to a forest track. Some small caves have formed in the rock, on the banks of the track. This brought us to an area with magnificent views of the coast. We didn’t spot any ibex today but we passed a panel which told us all about them. You can sometimes spot them in the nearby quarry of El Barrio, a now abandoned marble quarry that the Romans used for their temples and villas in the area. The marble was also cut during the 17th and 18th centuries for Málaga Cathedral, and churches in Seville, Granada and even Burgos in northern Spain! We arrived at the Chapel of El Calvario. This small but attractive temple is the end point of a Via Crucis (Way of the Cross). Just a little further down from here, we came to the end of stage 32. We walked down into Mijas Pueblo and enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Pampa Tablas y Tapas (see photos! [ Ссылка ]) – then hopped into a taxi back to our car.
A surprisingly pleasant hike – in the fact that it was easier than we thought it would be, and with a variety of beautiful trails and views.
The stats: About 12.5km, 860m elevation gain in 5 hours 15 mins.
