The 2025 BYD Shark 6 is looking to redefine the dual-cab ute segment in Australia as its first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model. That's right; it has beaten the eagerly anticipated Ford Ranger PHEV to market, as well as the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV, with this trio expected to be just the tip of the iceberg for the low-emissions light-commercial vehicle class.
So, what does the Shark 6 bring to the table? Well, it pairs a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for combined outputs of 320kW of power and 650Nm of torque, which enable a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 5.7 seconds. Better yet, it has an NEDC-rated electric-only driving range of 100km thanks to its 30kWh battery.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis gets up close and personal with the new Shark 6 at its Australia media launch to find out if it should be the dual-cab ute you buy next.
