The man who has been labelled "a positive voice for Norfolk" landed in London for the premiere of his new film and voiced his dismay with One Direction. Fictional DJ Alan Partridge appeared from a bright yellow Radio Norwich road bus to a fanfare and Abba music in Leicester Square to promote Alpha Papa.
But the shiny smiles and slicked back hair could not shield from the big issue that was bubbling underneath.
One Direction's movie is being released shortly and so goes head-to-head with Partridge and the DJ is worried.
"In fact I was thinking about raising it with the Prime Minister this Sunday when I go for a pot roast with him, Quentin Letts and Paul Dacre."
Alpha Papa earlier had its world premiere in Partridge's hometown of Norwich. The Norfolk screening was the result of a Twitter campaign dubbed Anglia Square Not Leicester Square.
The big screen spin-off of the hit TV show sees Partridge, played by Steve Coogan, called in by police to help negotiate with his colleague Pat Farrell, played by Colm Meaney, who stages a siege after he is sacked from North Norfolk Digital radio station. Report by Ashley Fudge.
