Grandfather/Chief Dan Evehema is a Hotevilla, Hopi Indigenous AmericanTraditional Leader and a member of the Roadrunner & Greasewood Clans. He is also a well known Medicine Man and Healer.

Grandfather Dan was born in 1893, in Old Oraibi and crossed-over one final time to the Spirit World on 1999, at the ripe old age of 106. .

Like the Hopis of old, Grandfather Dan is a peaceful and a happy man, qualities that deny the fact, that he has been “honed by adversity”. His entire life has been plagued by unfair intrusions of the worst possible kind.

Grandfather Dan was actively engaged at Hotevilla, with the other members of the Roadrunner & Greasewood Clans, in ceremonial and political activities. In these, he was always a Leader, and undoubtedly, the most knowledgeable man present and an irreplaceable repository of ancient lore.

He is also one of four Hopi Leaders,including: Grandfathers Thomas Banyacya, David Monongye and Dan Katchongva, who were appointed to reveal Hopi traditional wisdom and teachings, including the Hopi Prophecies for the future, to the general public, in 1946, after the use of the first two nuclear weapons, on Japan.

“We Hopi believe, that the human race has passed through three different worlds (Ages of Gold, Silver and Copper) and life ways, since the beginning.

At the end of each prior world, human life has been purified or, punished by the Great Spirit Massauu, “due mainly, to corruption. greed and turning away from the Great Spirit's teachings”. The last great destruction, was the flood which destroyed all but a few faithful onews, who received a permission from the Great Spirit to live with Him, in this new land."
