Infrastructure Australia Chief of Policy and Research Steve Brogan says New South Wales and Victoria are spending less on infrastructure while Queensland and the Northern Territory are spending more.
New data shows Australia’s declining transport infrastructure development is being replaced with billions of dollars in the pipeline of renewable energy projects.
However, a lack of skilled workers and a huge jump in the cost of materials is dragging on productivity and threatens the rollout.
“New South Wales and Victoria, with the most populous states, are the highest spenders, but we are seeing that spend come off,” Mr Brogan told Sky News Australia.
“Where we’re seeing that shift to is in the north of Australia.
“We’re seeing an increase in the pipelines of both Queensland and Northern Territory.”
