President Xi Jinping has paid homage to the Chinese journalists killed in the 1999 NATO bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade. At the first public event of his visit to Serbia, Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan joined Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic in paying a silent tribute to the journalists. The leaders of the two countries laid wreaths at a new cenotaph erected on the site where the embassy once stood.
