PM Modi's one SMS got Tata's Nano plant to Gujarat in 2008. The incident came to light when PM Modi was CM of Gujarat and inaugurated the Tata Nano plant in Sanand in 2010.

Notably, Singur movement, led by Banerjee against land acquisition for the Tata Motors plant, forced the project’s relocation to Gujarat in 2008. Reflecting on the relocation, Tata had said, 'It is an extremely painful decision... but there was no other option'. On October 3, 2008, Ratan Tata announced the withdrawal of the Nano project from Bengal.
