From April 2, 1978, until May 3, 1991, Dallas, an American prime time television soap opera, aired on CBS. The Ewings, a wealthy and contentious Texas family that owns the independent oil corporation Ewing Oil and the cattle-ranching property of Southfork, are the focus of the television show. The marriage of Bobby Ewing and Pamela Barnes, whose families were bitter adversaries, served as the series' first focal point. Bobby's older brother, oil tycoon J.R. Ewing, rose to prominence as the series went on, and his machinations and shady dealings came to be associated with the program. J.R. was the sole character to have featured in every episode when the program came to an end on May 3, 1991.
