So, who can tell me what this is? It’s slotted on one side and smooth on the other.
That’s right, it’s Form-A-Drain, we use this in place of dimensional lumber to form up our footings.
The slotted side works as a drain and the smooth side holds in the concrete.
The inside is hollow and is a channel to carry away water – it also serves as part of a Radon system.
Form-A-Drain offers 45- and 90-degree corners along with couplings for joining two pieces together.
We check the height with a laser level and then screw it to stakes to hold it in place.
These spacer straps have a hook on both ends and are used to keep the Form-A-Drain from spreading apart under the weight of the concrete.
Unlike wood forms that have to be taken apart and stripped after the pour, these stay in place and may a perfectly level perimeter drainage system.
They also make outlet adapters- you just cut a hole with a hole saw and the adapter snaps in place.
I put this one down low on the outside; then I’ll connect a 4” drain tile to it and run it to daylight to get any water out.
Then I’ll drill one at the top on the inside and connect it to a Radon vent.
