Philippine mythological creatures - Part One
1. Ag-ta or Kap-re
the Ag-ta or Kap-re is a creature that may be described as a tree giant, being a tall (7 to 9 ft) dark-coloured, hairy, and muscular creature.
Kapres are also said to have a very strong body odour and to sit in tree branches to smoke.
2. A-lan
The A-lan are deformed spirits from the folklore of the Tinguian tribe of the Philippines. They have wings and can fly, and their fingers and toes point backwards
3. A-ma-lan-hig
A-ma-lan-hig are Aswangs who failed to transfer their monstrosity causing them to rise from their graves to kill humans by biting their necks.
4. A-mo-mo-ngo
the A-mo-mo-ngo is a creature described as a hairy, man-sized ape with long nails. It is a hairy white ape with long, sharp nails and stands 5 feet 4 inches tall.
5. Ang-gi-tay
The Ang-gi-tay is a creature with the upper body of a female human and the lower body and legs of a horse from waist down. They were the Philippine counterpart to the centauride, the female centaurs. They are also believed to be the female counterpart of the Tikbalang.
6. Bal-Bal
a Bal-Bal is an undead monster that steals corpses whether it is in a funeral or grave and feeds on them. It has a strong sense of smell for dead human bodies.
It also has claws and teeth sharp enough to rip the clothing of the dead.
Since it eats nothing but corpses, it has a foul breath.
7. Ba-ti-bat
The Ba-ti-bat is a vengeful demon found in Ilocano folklore.
In Tagalog folklore, the creature is called Ba-ngu-ngot. The Ba-ti-bat takes the form of an ancient, grotesquely obese, tree-dwelling female spirit.
8. Ber-ba-lang
The Ber-ba-langs are mythical creatures in Filipino culture, described as ghouls who eat human flesh. They feed by digging up corpses from graveyards or by hunting living humans using flight and other supernatural powers.
9. Bu-ngis-ngis
Bu-ngis-ngis is a one-eyed giant, described as always laughing
Having a humanoid shape, it has large teeth which are always showing,
and its upper lip covers its face when it is thrown back. Two long tusks project from the side of its mouth. The giant's only eye, is found in the middle of its forehead,but this is compensated by its strong sense of hearing. It has also displays unusual strength.
10. Bu-saw
The Bu-saw is a ghoul and corpse thief. An evil spirit who looked and behaved like ordinary human beings by day, it listened for sounds of death in the evenings, and dwelled in large trees near cemeteries.
It had pointed teeth, hooked nails and a long tongue.
11. Da-la-ket-non
Da-la-ket-non are the evil engkanto. Da-la-ket-nons are a race of Elf-like creatures in Philippine mythology In Visayans they were believed to be handsome and beautiful creatures that resemble nobles and monarchs of the prehispanic Philippines.
