Unit Surf Pool has introduced new technology that allows multiple surfers to ride a single wave simultaneously, potentially boosting the profitability of wave pools.
Traditional surf pools usually permit only one surfer per wave, which limits revenue and efficiency. Unlike natural surf spots, wave pools incur costs for every wave they generate, especially in terms of energy use.
Unit Surf Pool’s innovation, called UnitDynamicWave, creates dynamic "wave pockets" across a 50-meter-wide wave line, enabling up to five surfers to ride simultaneously.
Each surfer gets a 20-second ride, with adjustable wave height and speed, for a customized experience.
The system operates in enclosed water bodies without consuming extra water, suits both freshwater and saltwater and even improves water quality.
While promising, questions remain, such as how surfers will access each wave pocket and if safety buffers will be included.
Unit Surf Pool claims this technology is affordable and can offer a higher return on investment by moving beyond the one-surfer-per-wave model, although they haven’t announced the location of their first installation yet.
