Pelicans are known to feast on Fish. But Pelicans will try to eat anything! From doves, fish, capybaras or even humans. The consequence: a high possibility to end up with a broken beak or death through suffocation. Ironically the pelican belongs to one of the oldest bird families. Oldest fossil founds are dated back to around 30 million years ago. Their body structure is relatively unchanged and this bird is one of the heaviest flying birds. Some species can grow up to 20lbs (9,5kg) with a wingspan of 9.8feet (3m). As many other species, pelicans are migratory and undertake long journeys between their breeding and wintering grounds, it can be a span of thousands of kilometers. As you see, pelicans are impressive creatures of the sky and sea. The American white pelican even grows a large horn during mating season to show that the bird is ready for breeding.
