(5 May 2019) Tens of thousands of supporters of the packed Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday to rally for and listen to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Drenched in the African National Congress colours - yellow, black and green - the rugby stadium with a capacity of 62,000 was nearly full.
Campaigning for South Africa's upcoming elections on Wednesday, Ramaphosa assured his supporters that the ANC is on a new path of renewal and ready to fight corruption within its ranks.
"We are determined, comrades, that those who are found guilty of corruption or involvement in state capture will not be allowed to occupy positions of responsibility, either in the ANC, in parliament or in government," he declared.
He also promised more jobs and economic growth for all South Africans.
Ramaphosa's ANC - the party of Nelson Mandela - has been in power since apartheid ended 25 years ago and is expected to win the elections but is dogged by allegations of corruption and lacklustre economic performance.
The ANC's margin of victory is expected to decline from the 62 percent of the vote it received in the previous elections in 2014.
Ramaphosa came to power last year after previous president Jacob Zuma, also of the ANC, was forced to resign amid widespread scandals.
