The inspiration for this video was inspired by a review, [ Ссылка ] : “The rest of the album, however, is a little darker than one might expect,” to me, meant that it was a step in a different direction from the more fun felt “Deep Sea Skiving” and the following self-titled.
So I symbolized that by making the video have an art direction. Art is artificial, unlike real life phots, so I felt that was the indicator of difference.
There are some real life pictures in the beginning and the solo, for a walk down London memory lane (1986, the year of the song). I guess having both live and art symbolize the different perceptions of the entire “True Confessions” album, also from that same review:
“To some, True Confessions was a departure of sorts from the post-punk, new wave girl group sound that made Bananarama so essential to early-'80s British alt-pop music.
To others, it represents a shift to platinum success.”
Art also seemed to fit the song, lyrically. If logically speaking, the meaning was true confessions equal false impressions, than there was a dividing line between the fictional art and real life photos.
I had never taken this direction before. My previous videos followed the same pattern, like their last video, [ Ссылка ] , followed a distinct pattern of finding topics of the pictures, and placing them in sequential order, repeating the pattern.
This time, live pictures and art are displayed for chunks of time within the song. There are, of course, pictures of the ladies throughout, though not on a time-scheduled pattern.
All pictures were researched 1986, with the exception of the last picture. Please note that search engines can be inaccurate and images can be mistagged with the wrong year. The last picture was from ’85, which is after the self-titled album, so it would be an “in the meantime, in between time” photo.
Whether fact or fiction, it’s a trip down 1986 memory lane.
