A new chop uploaded every day for 50 days. This series originally comes from Instagram @sirosvaziri #50daysofchops #chopoftheday
Sticking: RLKK, looped around in any number and subdivision to form chops. For example, the first roll I play in this video is played as 32nd note triplets, and the second roll is played as straight 32nd notes.
A lot of times when you hear someone play a super fast roll on the drums, especially in rock and metal, what you're hearing is often this. The RLKK sticking (often refered to as 'quads') is one of the most fundamental building blocks of rolls and fills in many genres. For me, this was the first chop sticking I ever learned, and it stuck with me for a long time as it helped shape my fill intensive style of playing the drums, even up to today. You can get very creative with quads if you want to, or you could just go for that straight forward rock/metal sound. Whatever floats your boat!
