Founded in 1743 and charted by the State of Delaware in 1833, the University of Delaware is one of the oldest public universities in the United States. It is also the alma mater of President Joe Biden.

While it is state-assisted, UDel is a privately governed institution as well as a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university.
