So, I can really only think of one scenario where purchasing a revolver chambered only in .38 over one in .357 Magnum makes sense: If you're not a fan of heavy recoil and you find yourself always shooting .38 Specials out of your .357 Magnum revolver, but you hate cleaning up that nasty buildup in the chambers, you might just want to grab a revolver that's been chambered only for .38 Special.

Not gonna lie, I think .38 Special revolvers are a little too old school and impractical. I mean, why not go for a revolver chambered in either 9mm or .327 Federal Magnum? Either packs more punch than the .38 Special without the kick of the .357 Magnum.
