Tens of thousands of French state workers marched in Paris on Thursday (17/10) as part of a strike over wage freezes and job losses. Train engineers, air traffic controllers, postal and utility workers, teachers, medics and other civil service workers were all taking industrial action. Workers are protesting conservative Premier Alain Juppe's austerity programme.

is better to have more bureaucrats in France than in Brussels. We should keep the work here."
