This is looking to be an unpredictable year for a lot of us and the rising cost of things like food, energy and fuel is probably going to put a squeeze on household budgets. So we’ve been having a think about what will help us survive a lean, mean 2017.
Learning from the eternal wisdom of Bill Withers lyrics and The Crystal Maze winners we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way to get yourself out a tricky situation is to work together. We’re concocting a plan to come out on top this year by sharing more with our neighbours or the people we live with.
This isn’t a brand new idea and the a move towards a sharing economy is being made easier every day with things like Olio, Freecycle and even Airbnb. So have a look around and see if there are any networks in your area you can join to start sharing your stuff.
To see how much we could actually save by sharing later in the year we’ll be running an experiment called ‘The Street That Shared’. We’re looking to recruit a street to take part in a series of challenges to share and save more. Sound like something you’ love to try on your street? If you’re already tight with your neighbours let us know your stories and how to make the first steps to getting to the people we live with. Should we send a Christmas card? Invite them for dinner? Give them our leftover lasagne? We need your top tips.
