Tunnels like Eurotunnel are important to cross oceans and mountains that separate us from our neighbors. But how can tunnels be built?
Engineers have made the unthinkable possible and connected us by building tunnels. This documentary gives us a glimpse into three gigantic construction projects in history, building the most famous tunnels in France.
The Mont-Cenis tunnel was the first to pierce the Alps. Its construction was to take up to 30 years. But thanks to the technical innovation of the pneumatic drill, the tunnel's construction time was shortened.
In 1994, the longest undersea tunnel to date - the Eurotunnel - was inaugurated. The Eurotunnel connects France with Great Britain over a length of more than 50 km and is the longest underwater tunnel.
The history of the Mont Blanc Tunnel is also presented, which in 1965 was known as the longest road tunnel of its time.
