La bomba atómica que España pudo tener con Franco; aunque pueda parecer una broma, estuvo más cerca de lo que muchos pudieran pensar. El proyecto atómico español, nació en 1963, con Guillermo Velarde como director. Este decidió ponerle por nombre Proyecto Islero. Desarrollándose en la Ciudad Universitaria de Madrid, en el Centro de Energía Nuclear, Juan Vigon.
Contó con el apoyo del almirante Carrero Blanco, y para algunos, este proyecto de la bomba atómica de Franco, fue el causante de su asesinato. El sueño de la bomba atómica española, terminó, cuando el gobierno de Felipe González, firmó el Tratado de No Proliferación de Armas Nucleares,
