Aloha, my name is Donna Fisher. I am a veteran English teacher who has taught grades 6th-12th for almost two decades. I have six years teaching experience with grades 7-12 where I taught using an Abeka (rigorous) curriculum in a private school, and over a decade teaching middle school in public schools. Therefore, I have extensive experience creating and using these raps to teach my students complex English Language Arts concepts with ease. 🎵Basics, Too Stringy
Too stringy, yea, I know!
I used “and, and” “then, then” and “so, so”
Too often, and messed up my essay’s flow.
I kept stringing along my thought,
Forgetting what I was taught.
Now that my essay is stringy, I need a quick fix.
Mrs. Fisher, do you have a system or a trick?
Well, you have two courses you can take.
You can divide or subordinate.
Divide your sentences,
making two or more sentences out of one.
Or, turn an IC Independent Clause
Into a DC Dependent Clause; that’s easy and fun.
Mrs. Fisher, please remind me one more time how that is done.
Clauses, of unequal rank, are joined by subordinates.
The subordinate conjunction that’s added to it;
Like after, although, unless, until, when (and) whenever,
Than, that, because, before, wherever, while, (and) whether.
Add one to your sentence and it will sound clever.
Avoid excessive coordination when you write.
Using too many compound sentences will not sound right.
Think about varying your writing using our simple life story.
Use simple, compound, complex,
And, compound-complex, to show a variety.

1 IC is simple; 2 or more ICs compound;
Complex is when one IC and one or more DCs can be found,
But if there’s 2 or more ICs and 1 or more DCs then it’s
Compound complex the combo of all three.
