The first Battle of Copenhagen was fought in 1801 between the fleets of Great Britain and Denmark. The battle was a British response to the League of Armed Neutrality, which was formed by Sweden, Prussia, Denmark and Russia in order to ensure free trade with France, whom Britain had blockaded. The War of the Second Coalition was taking place at the time between France and a Coalition created to restore the monarchy.
This is part three of a four part series on Horatio Nelson and will be followed by the Battle of Trafalgar.
