Tirupati Laddu Controversy: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Discusses Tirumala Visit Cancellation Reasons
YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy has canceled his planned visit to the Tirumala temple, intended to atone for the alleged "sin" committed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu regarding claims of animal fat in the temple's laddoos. During a press conference, Reddy claimed he was denied permission to visit, a statement refuted by Naidu's TDP.
This decision has sparked a political controversy, with the TDP and BJP demanding that Reddy sign a declaration for non-Hindus, citing temple rules. Although this rule is longstanding, new signboards were posted near the temple after Reddy announced his visit. Naidu emphasized the need to protect Hindu sentiments and uphold temple traditions.
YSR Congress leaders received notices from police regarding public assembly regulations, as reports indicated potential gatherings for statewide rituals. Reddy asserted that Naidu's statements about the laddoos were lies intended to divert attention from his administration's first 100 days. He criticized the delay in lab reports regarding the ghee used in the laddoos and questioned Naidu's motives, stating, “A person holding the chief minister's chair should not be lying like this... Nothing can be more irreligious than a chief minister spoiling the name and fame of the temple and the lord like that.”
Additionally, Andhra Pradesh BJP chief D Purandeswari reiterated that Reddy needed to declare his faith before visiting, citing established rules. This situation highlights the ongoing political tensions in Andhra Pradesh surrounding religious practices and sentiments.
