Currently Spain holds the world record for the longest continuous burning firecracker at 7 miles long. Taiwan's attempt needs to be verified by Guinness World Records.

Some celebrated by writing wishes on sky lanterns made from paper and releasing them into the night sky.

Others brought in the "year of the pig" at local festivals. This excited onlooker says, "Lanterns look beautiful this year. Pigs are always adorable."
