Every summer thousands of Alaskans head to the mouth of the Kenai River, battling it out for their share of the personal use sockeye salmon run, an annual event that many describe as “combat fishing.” But 380 miles away in Chitina, on the banks of the Copper River, there is another lesser-known dipnet fishery where those hardy enough to make the journey are rewarded with few crowds, unparalleled scenery, and plenty of fish.
