After speeches from the Lithuanian Prime Minister and Vice-President of the Lithuanian Parliament, a short documentary showed which role the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament, venue of the event) played in the 1990 Independence Days for Lithuania. Then Professor Vytautas Landsbergis, Member of the European Parliament, first Head of State of Lithuania after its independence declaration from the Soviet Union, took the floor. He was followed by Viviane Reding, Vice President of the European Commission, who informed the 300 participants (most of them representing civil society organisations from both EU and national levels) that the 2013 European Year of Citizens will exceptionally continue in 2014
