Get a tour of Broward County’s signature art event, IGNITE Light Art Festival. The 5-day, free, family-friendly event takes over Esplanade Park in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and Mad Arts in Dania Beach. A huge projection mapping piece wraps the facade of the Museum of Discovery and Science in an impressive show of light, color, and sound. Over at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport, a projection-mapping work will transform the bustling building.
The technology inspired artworks in the show range from sculpture, large-scale projection mapping, lasers, and immersive art. The organizers of the event explain how immersive art increases accessibility to the arts for visitors of all ages and art experience. Walk through, pause and meditate with, and even touch the diverse collection of works. The works were curated from artists around the world.
A highlight is 3 works by the immersive art team of Studio McGuire. One work is “The Hunter,” an intricate papercut diorama that is brought to life with thoughtful projection storytelling. Then, experience “Sirens,” a colorful projection underwater that depicts swirling lifelike mermaids. Finally, a work titled “Ophelia” that blends the physical and projection to create the scene of the Shakespearean character. Even after the festival ends, Mad Arts in Dania Beach will become the epicenter for immersive art. Mad Arts Gallery is a new immersive art-focused museum that will house several of the works featured at the IGNITE Festival, plus a series of curated shows coming soon.
