Fix Tilted Sacrums with Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques
Sacral torsion refers to an abnormal rotation or misalignment of the sacrum, which is a triangular bone located at the base of the spine, between the two hip bones. The sacrum is made up of several fused vertebrae and connects the spine to the pelvis.
In a healthy and properly aligned spine, the sacrum sits symmetrically between the two hip bones. However, sacral torsion occurs when the sacrum rotates tilts and twists to one side. This can result in an imbalance or dysfunction in the pelvic and spinal structures.
Sacral torsion can be caused by various factors, including trauma or injury to the pelvis or lower back, muscle imbalances, poor posture, or repetitive stress on the spine. It can also be associated with certain conditions such as scoliosis or leg length discrepancy.
In this video Erik Dalton demonstrates one manual therapy technique that massage therapists can use to correct sacral torsion.
This massage technique is part of a broader approach to treating postural disorders called Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, an approach developed by Erik Dalton, PhD, a student of Ida Rolf, and a recognized pioneer in the bodywork community for more than 30 years.
